Doublebase Gel Information
What is Doublebase Gel?
Doublebase is a clinically-proven emollient that has been prescribed to treat dry skin conditions for many years. Doublebase contains a high moisture content that is normally associated with a cream and the easy absorption of a gel. Doublebase has gained a reputation for being non-greasy, despite its high oil content.
Doublebase is made by Diomed (Dermal Labs) and is available in 100g & 500g packs. Doublebase is free from steroids, SLS, parabens, MI preservatives, colourings and fragrances.
How does Doublebase Gel work?
The oily ingredients, isopropyl myristate and liquid paraffin, encourage rehydration and softening of dry skin by forming an occlusive barrier within the skin surface, thus reducing drying from evaporation of water that diffuses from the underlying layers.
Doublebase's specially developed gel formulation breaks down when in contact with salts in the skin, irreversibly separating the oil and water parts of the gel. The oils in Doublebase Gel are no longer suspended in the water, which means they can be absorbed into the skin, form a protective layer and are less susceptible to removal by washing.
Glycerol helps retain residual water from the gel formulation and reduces evaporation of water through the skin leaving it moisturised and healthy.

Doublebase Gel directions
Doublebase Gel should be applied to external skin only. Avoid contact with the eyes, nostrils, and mouth.
Doublebase Gel is suitable for use by adults, the elderly, infants and children. It is suitable for use in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Apply Doublebase to the affected areas as often as necessary, normally up to four times daily.
- For best results use a few gentle strokes to smooth Doublebase across the skin in the same direction as hair growth. If necessary, allow time for any excess to soak in. Do not rub vigorously.
- Doublebase may also be applied before washing, showering or having a bath to prevent further drying of the skin.
- If additional topical treatments are being used on the same skin areas, Doublebase should be applied between these applications.
If you struggle to apply Doublebase Gel up to four times daily, Doublebase Dayleve Gel may be a more appropriate option for you; it retains the same moisturising properties of Doublebase Gel but its long-lasting formula only requires twice daily application.
Doublebase Gel ingredients
The active ingredients in Doublebase gel are: Isopropyl Myristate 15% w/w & Liquid Paraffin 15% w/w.
Doublebase Gel also contains glycerol, carbomer, sorbitan laurate, trolamine, phenoxyethanol, purified water.
Doublebase Gel side effects
Adverse effects from using Doublebase Gel are uncommon, however, local skin reactions can occur in rare cases. In this event, treatment with Doublebase Gel should be discontinued and you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist.
Ensure you read the Patient Information Leaflet for full details of side effects and what to do if you experience them.
Doublebase Gel warnings
Do not use Doublebase Gel if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to isopropyl myristate, liquid paraffin or any of the other ingredients of Doublebase Gel listed in the Patient Information Leaflet.
Do not smoke or go near naked flames - risk of severe burns. Fabric (clothing, bedding, dressings etc) that has been in contact with this product burns more easily and is a serious fire hazard. Washing clothing and bedding may reduce product build-up but not totally remove it.
